I take a somatic approach to all Movement and Pilates, thereby experiencing movement from inside out. After a contemporary dance led warm - up, the breath, balance and flow of movement are a central theme and focus in my classes. The six core principles in which we focus are concentration, control, centre, breath, precision, and flow. These principles are designed to work together harmoniously to create effective and mindful exercise. Experience is beneficial, however all new clients must book a one to one prior to a group class.
Classes:
Monday 9.30 - 10.30am and 11 - 12 Midday
Friday 9.30 - 10.30am
Our Balance
Joseph Pilates's approach to balance focused on achieving a harmonious balance of mind, body, and spirit. He emphasized the importance of balance in daily activities, stating that correctly executed exercises would reflect grace and balance in routine movements. Pilates believed that balance is not just about physical stability but also about alignment, both physically and in terms of personal values.
Our Breath
Joseph Pilates emphasized the importance of breathing for both exercise and overall well-being, stating, "Breathing is the first act of life and the last." He believed that correct breathing is crucial for activating muscles, improving posture, and promoting relaxation.
Our Flexibility
‘Joseph Pilates believed in strengthening the powerhouse, which he defined as the core, consisting of the abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, and buttocks. He emphasized that the core is the foundation for movement and stability, with exercises originating from the powerhouse and flowing outward.
Our Core strength
Joseph Pilates famously said, "You're only as young as your spine is flexible," emphasizing the importance of spinal health and mobility. He believed that a stiff spine at 30 indicated old age, while a flexible spine at 60 was a sign of youth. Pilates exercises, with their focus on core strength and controlled movements, were designed to enhance flexibility and spinal mobility.
"Pilates is complete co-ordination of body, mind, and spirit." Joe Pilates
